Do not assume that a gate keeper or the contact is telling the truth when they say they are not moving or have services sorted.
Firstly, are you talking to the contact? Receptionists and gate keepers are often instructed to lie!! The easiest way to get you off the phone is deny they are moving or say they either do not need or have sorted whatever your company offers. This can simply be because the actual contact is busy or away from the office or the contact feels now is not the time to talk about it. Before you write off a lead make sure you actually talk to the contact and even if they tell you the same thing make a follow-up call a month or so later to ensure they have not fobbed you off because it was not the right time or they were having a bad day. Remember the move process is fluid, changes of heart or attitude can and do happen.
On average it takes 3 to 4 calls to get through to the right contact, the harder it is for you to get in, the harder it is for your competitors. The most successful companies are the ones who do not give up and continue to work information to a definitive end. It often takes us over 10 calls to create and verify a lead before it is sent. Therefore expect to make at least as many again before you make an appointment.
